ABOUT HANNAH TORAN, MSW, LSW

Ever since I was young, I have always had a love for learning about people and their stories. I believe that in order to know where a person is going, it’s important to learn more about where they have come from. With a diverse background in working with children, couples, adults, and families, I have a passion for working with different populations throughout the lifespan. My background as a former preschool teacher has given me both a deep appreciation for early childhood and for the important role parents play in their children’s lives.

As a graduate of Rutgers University School of Social Work School, I was fortunate to gain valuable internship experiences providing therapy to teens and their families, as they faced various challenges, ranging from OCD to navigating the foster care system. For the past two years I have worked as a therapist providing individual and group therapy to adult survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Through this role, I also worked as a child therapist, supporting children and parents who are navigating the process of divorce.

APPROACH TO THERAPY

With warmth and empathy, I try to foster a nurturing space for clients to understand more about their emotions and experiences. I believe in normalizing some of the challenges people face and will often use humor to help my clients feel validated and less alone. My training in trauma and attachment based therapy modalities, serves as a strong foundation to help my clients learn more about themselves in the context of their relationships, whether on the playground, at work, or in the home. I incorporate different modalities to provide my clients with personalized support that works for them. These include : IFS, Somatic, CBT, DBT, Family Systems, and various play therapy techniques. Whether working with children, teens, or adults, my goal as a therapist is to help my clients make sense of their challenges, overcome adversities, and write the next chapter in their story.

PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH

Supporting parents and families has always been a passion of mine. I believe that building a family is a tremendous gift, but with this gift, it is natural for challenges and difficult emotions to sometimes arise. Parents deserve to feel supported as they navigate the different transitions and stages of parenthood, beginning from those early moments of pregnancy and into toddlerhood. Working with Perinatal Mental Health clients has been a natural progression from my personal and professional experience, both as a mom and as a former preschool teacher. My love for attachment and supporting healthy family relationships is a driving force that informs my work with perinatal mental health clients. To ensure that my clients are receiving quality clinical care as they begin their journey to parenthood, I will be pursuing a certification in PMH-C this September.

If you are looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you are just ready to move in a new direction in your life, we look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
